Galway County Darts continued the 2026/2027 County Ranking Season with Ranking Events 5 & 6 on Saturday, 12th September at the Ard Ri House Hotel, Tuam.

The Galway Masters attracted a fantastic turnout, with 91 players competing across the four categories:

🎯 8 Ladies
🎯 8 Under 23s
🎯 18 Youths

There was plenty of competitive action throughout the day, with players battling for valuable county ranking points as the race for selection to the 2026/2027 Galway County teams continues.


🎯 MEN’S GALWAY MASTERS

The Men’s Galway Masters produced an excellent final, with Gavin Murphy claiming the Main Cup after defeating James Joyce 2–0.

Murphy produced a strong run through the knockout stages, overcoming Dylan Dowling and Mark McLaughlin before defeating Joyce in the final.

The Men’s Shield was won by Pete Coen, who defeated Mark Skuce 2–1 in the final.

The Ladies Galway Masters saw Caroline Breen claim the Main Cup after a convincing 2–0 victory over Sarah Skuce in the final.

The Ladies Shield was won by Anne Connaughton, who defeated Catherine Glennon 2–0 in the final.

🎯 UNDER 23’S GALWAY MASTERS

The Under 23 Galway Masters produced some excellent darts, with Adam Doran claiming the Main Cup after defeating Dylan Dowling 2–1 in the final.

Doran was in outstanding form during the group stages, producing a fantastic 103.93 average in his match against Ben Byrne, who himself recorded an impressive 90.93 average.

Doran then continued his strong run through the knockout stages, recording an 80.16 average in his semi-final victory over Daniel Whelan.

The Youths Galway Masters produced some excellent performances from Galway's young players, with Eddie Sweeney claiming the Main Cup.

Sweeney defeated Conor Walsh 2–0 in the final after an impressive run through the knockout stages.

🎯 Galway County Darts Rankings 3 & 4

Event Report – Men’s, Ladies, Under 23s & Youths

Galway County Darts continued the 2026/2027 County Ranking Season with Ranking Events 3 & 4 at Bradleys Pub, Ardrahan, with players once again battling through the competitions in the race for valuable county ranking points and places on the Galway County teams.

There was plenty of competitive action across the Men’s, Ladies, Under 23s and Youths competitions, with some excellent performances and closely fought matches throughout the knockout stages.


🎯 MEN’S KNOCKOUT

The Men’s knockout produced an impressive performance from Eddie Sweeney, who claimed the ranking title after a strong run through a competitive field.

Sweeney defeated Declan Fuery 3–0 in the final, with both players producing solid match averages. Sweeney recorded a 77.74 average, while Fuery finished on 76.26.

Quarter-Finals

Sweeney's run to the title was particularly impressive, overcoming Adrian Murphy in a five-leg quarter-final before progressing through the semi-final and securing the title with a clean 3–0 victory in the final.


🎯 LADIES KNOCKOUT

The Ladies competition saw Anne Connaughton claim the knockout ranking title following an excellent run through the final stages.

Connaughton defeated Sarah Skuce 3–1 in the final, recording a 43.36 match average, with Skuce finishing on 40.09.

The final stages produced some closely contested matches, with Skuce having to come through a deciding fifth leg against Tiernan in the semi-final before reaching the final.

Congratulations to Anne Connaughton on taking the Ladies knockout title.


🎯 UNDER 23 KNOCKOUT

The Under 23 competition once again produced some excellent darts, with Ben Byrne coming through a closely fought final to claim the title.

Byrne defeated Kieran McDonagh 3–2 in the final. McDonagh recorded the higher match average in the final with 64.20, compared with Byrne's 63.62, but Byrne held his nerve to secure the deciding victory.

It was another strong run from Byrne, who followed up his semi-final victory over Cunningham by edging McDonagh in a five-leg final.

Congratulations to Ben Byrne on claiming the Under 23 knockout title.


🎯 YOUTHS KNOCKOUT

The Youths competition produced some excellent performances from Galway's young players, with Max Kennedy taking the Youths knockout title.

Kennedy produced a strong performance throughout the final stages before defeating Jonathan Ruane 3–0 in the final.

Kennedy recorded a 62.63 average in the final, while Ruane finished on 54.79.

Semi-Finals

  • Max Kennedy 3–1 Steven Higgins

Kennedy was particularly impressive in his semi-final, producing a 64.70 average in his 3–1 victory over Steven Higgins.

Ruane also produced a strong performance to reach the final, defeating Conor Walsh 3–1.

Congratulations to Max Kennedy on claiming the Youths knockout title, and well done to all the young players who competed.

Event Report – Men’s, Ladies, Youths & Under 23s

Galway County Darts got the 2026/2027 county ranking season underway on Saturday, 22nd August 2026 at the Claddagh Hall, Galway City, with the opening ranking events for the Men’s, Ladies, Youths and Under 23s.

After the Round Robin format used for Ranking Event 1, the players moved into the straight knockout competition for Ranking Event 2, with some excellent darts produced across all four categories.

🎯 MEN’S KNOCKOUT

The Men’s knockout produced a superb conclusion, with Jack Haugh taking the first knockout ranking title of the new season.

Haugh defeated Eddie Sweeney 3–1 in the final, averaging an impressive 93.81. Sweeney recorded a higher match average of 97.47, but Haugh took his opportunities to secure the victory and the Ranking Event 2 title.

🎯 LADIES KNOCKOUT

Maria Vaughan claimed the Ladies Ranking Event 2 title following an excellent run through the knockout stages.

Vaughan defeated Christina Quinn 3–0 in the final, averaging 41.75 compared with Quinn's 37.08.

Galway County Darts would like to extend a massive thank you to the Claddagh Hall for hosting the opening Galway County Darts Ranking Events.

A special thank you goes to the Claddagh Hall team for having the venue ready and set up for the day, ensuring the players had an excellent environment in which to compete.

We would also like to thank them for providing food throughout the event, which was greatly appreciated by players, officials and supporters during what was a long day of darts.

The support from the Claddagh Hall helped make the opening weekend a great success, and Galway County Darts is delighted to have had such a welcoming venue to begin the new ranking season.

A Great Start to the Season

It was a fantastic opening day for the 2026/2027 Galway County Darts ranking season, with competitive darts throughout all four sections.

A special mention must go to Eddie Sweeney for his outstanding 100.20 average in the Youth final, while the Men’s final also produced excellent darts, with Eddie averaging 97.47 and champion Jack Haugh averaging 93.81.

Congratulations to Jack Haugh, Maria Vaughan, Eddie Sweeney and Ben Byrne on becoming the first knockout ranking winners of the new season, and well done to everyone who competed.
